Stokes Berry Farm

I love being Cincinnati Documentary Photographer! Documenting my own family this year has been so fun! The Barrett’s started a new family tradition and headed out to Stokes Berry Farm. After seeing a post on Facebook from a friend, I knew we had  to go! We made the one hour trip north  first thing in the morning and practically had the place to ourselves. My plan loving son was in all his glory!

I think he ate his weight in delicious berries. He loved running the rows looking for the juiciest berries. Found one!My sweet boy ended up picking 9lbs total of delicious berries!  Plenty for strawberry ice cream, jam, pies, and of course, snacking on the way home!  What is your favorite thing to do with your haul from the berry farm? Share your favorite recipes in the comments! I would love to add them to my collection <3

What are sitter sessions?

This is a special time when your little one is learning new skills every day. They may just have discovered their toes, be learning to clap or blowing raspberries. They usually have big gummy smiles and plenty of giggles, sometimes they have 1 or 2 new teeth to show off. There’s also the chubby thighs and gorgeous chunky bottoms beg to be documented.

When should I schedule my sitter session?

The best time to schedule your sitter session with your Cincinnati Baby Photographer is once your baby is sitting unaided and before they can crawl or walk. The best time for these sessions is typically between 6-9 months.

I have a variety of outfits, hairbands, hats, bowls, baskets and blankets to choose from and use, all in my beautiful Norwood Studio. These sessions are short and sweet (about 20-30 minutes) and scheduled first thing in the morning when your baby is the happiest.

Cincinnati Documentary Photographer | A Day in the Life Sessions

What are Day in the Life Sessions and why do I need this in my life?!

Easy! Summer is full of exciting adventures, why not have it documented in a beautiful and meaningful way. I have spent the last 18months documenting my family through my 365 project and these images have become some of my favorite images I have of my children. I have been getting a lot of interest for these sessions and am thrilled to be offering them for my clients!

I would love to tag along to your family trip to Kings Island, a day at the pool (hello underwater pictures!), a trip to the strawberry patch such as Stokes Berry Farm, or even just a lazy day at home playing in the backyard, making cookies, and bath time. Whatever it is that you want to remember forever, I want to be there to help you document it. Our children grow up so fast and if you are anything like me you would give anything to freeze that time. Pictures are one we we can do that!

Since these are a brand new offering, I am offering the first 5 people who book a documentary session a 50% discount with the code DOCUMENTUS

The Lights Fest

I love summer. Experiencing new things through my children’s eyes is why I enjoy documentary photography so much. Capturing the awe and wonder my children see in my camera fills my heart with so much delight! When I bought tickets for The Lights Fest this summer, I could hardly wait to see their reactions. I knew this would blow their minds. Goodness gracious, The Lights Fest did not disappoint!

Cincinnati Family PhotographyOur tickets were purchased as soon as they were released – hello discount! It had been raining the entire week before and I was so nervous we would have terrible weather and we would miss this opportunity. Turns out it was a beautiful and HOT day!
Cincinnati Family Photography
We arrived a little after 5pm, way too early if you have a two year old with you ;). We played & spun in the fairgrounds, chased bubbles (and our two year old runner), ate tons of snacks, and drank all the drinks lol.
Our kids spent time decorating their lanterns. Isabel got creative and turned hers into a spin-off of Tangled. Eli wrote about all the people he loves on his, such a Eli thing to do. And, Sam, he punched a huge hole in his throwing a epic temper tantrum. Also, a very Sam thing to do. Two years old’s, yeash.
Her lantern looks great, doesn’t it? She is definitely the family artist! We grabbed a few family pictures too as the sun was setting. You know how much I love sun flare during the golden hour! By the time it was approaching lantern time, everyone seemed to be fading fast. The 9:45 lantern launch time really pushed their fatigue and patience.

As all the lanterns rose in the air, the MC played Hallelujah, and I was officially I was speechless. One of the most spectacular things I have ever seen. Eric was even awe struck and mentioned how cool it was to see all the lanterns floating in the air.

Sam could hardly contain his excitement.  (I am so glad I caught this on video!)

The Launch

The Lights Fest was a total win, even with a two year old! It was a one of a kind experience that I will treasure! Check out the lanterns for yourself!

Happy First Birthday, Everette!

Oh how I love cake smash sessions!  I first met this sweet family when they signed up for my Easter Bunny Mini Sessions. It wasn’t long after that session that Mom contacted me about setting up a Wild One cake smash for Everette. I have shot many other Wild One cake smashes in the past but wanted to do something a little different this time. I was thrilled when Mom said she had a tent and this adorable little Wild One banner to bring to the session. It tied my vision together perfectly, don’t you think?

Check out Everette’s cake smash below and let me know what you think!

Meet Benjamin

Benjamin was an absolute pleasure to host at my studio, but sessions aren’t always that easy. As soon as a client schedules a photo session with me, I send them a copy of my welcome guide that includes all of the details they need to make their session incredible.

It’s been awhile since I have shared my tips to a successful newborn session so here goes:

Here are my top 5 tips to making your Cincinnati Newborn session amazing:

  1. Book your session as soon as possible! Photos must be taken in the first 14 days of baby’s life. This allows me to capture those squishy, snuggly poses that you’ll cherish forever. Photos are scheduled based on your due date and have total flexibility based on when baby actually decides to arrive.
  2. A full belly makes babies happy! The first thing I’d love for you to do when you arrive is to relax and enjoy my beautiful studio. (It’s going to be warm to keep baby cozy, so be sure to dress in layers for your own comfort.) The second thing on your list… feed the baby. Take your time (I’ve planned for this!) and let me know if you need anything to make you more comfortable. Let me know when baby is full and we’ll get started.
  3. Don’t let poo scare you! Sounds silly, I know. But poo happens. It happens in those really cute outfits I’ve prepared for your little one and on my fuzzy blankets. I’m not afraid of it and I don’t want you to be either. Just relax and let me worry about those fun little surprises. I follow baby’s lead during all of my sessions and will stop for soothing, changing, feeding, whatever baby needs.
  4. If we’re taking sibling photos, let’s do those early! I love capturing new big brothers and sisters as they oooohh and ahhhh over the new baby in the house. If these are on your list of “must haves”, let me know and we’ll make sure to take these first. This ensures that we have everyone’s full attention and that the little ones haven’t grown impatient by the time we get to their big moment.
  5. If there’s something specific you want, let me know! Colors, props, outfits… if you see something in my portfolio that you absolutely love, tell me about it! Creating amazing photos that you’ll cherish forever is my passion. Tips on things you love will help me plan accordingly, so don’t be afraid to share.

Now for the rest of baby Benjamin’s preview!

Meet Zara

As Cincinnati’s Newborn Photographer, I have the great pleasure of hosting so many beautiful families in my studio!

Zara was born on , March 22, 2018, to her lovely parents Radhika & Reed. She is the perfect mixture of her parents, and they just adore him so.

At 15 days new, Zara surprised us all, by being awake for almost her entire session!

I definitely didn’t mind a bit, as her wonderful eye contact was well worth the wait. She eventually settled in and we were able to get some of those much desired sleepy baby shots.

Happy First Birthday, Meera!

Meera and her family came to visit Cincinnati and the surrounding area all the way from Dubai! As a Cake Smash Photographer it is very rare that we get to take first birthday pictures on a baby’s actual birthday, but we had the privilege of photographing this Cake Smash Session on Meera’s actual first birthday!

This alone was magical. Pair that with the beautiful smash cake that was custom made by the lovely ladies over at Tres Belle Cakes and we had a recipe for a dream Cake Smash Session!

We used a record setting 148 balloons on this set. (And congratulations to our lucky winner for guessing the exact number of balloons we used on our facebook video!)

This little lady wasn’t interested in the cake unless Momma was sitting right next to her. Once she figured out what the cake was, she went all in, and had a great time.

So much cuteness. Check it out!

Happy Birthday Isla!

This was my first time meeting Gazen and Dick.

Isla’s first birthday theme was a peony, gold, and greenery theme so we ran with it and created an indoor spring set.

Isla was also a total champ during her cake smash photography session!

At first she went straight for the cake topper and delicately licked the icing off the stem. Then she realized she had an entire cake covered in frosting to go for!

You would never know this was her first time eating cake.

Mom and Dad were really eager to try out a cake from Tres Belle but she smashed the cake so much that there was nothing left to taste.

She might be my best smasher to date. Isla loved the bubbles in the smash session and kept trying to catch them.

We even had a chance to take a bit of video, so here’s a peak behind the scenes of Isla’s Cake Smash Session!

Happy First Birthday, Titus!

I am getting to the point in my career as a Cincinnati Cake Smash photographer that I am starting to photograph my littlest clients siblings. And boy do I love it!

I first met sweet Titus while he was still a baby in his Momma’s belly during his big sisters cake smash session a little over a year ago.  He was just a few weeks away from making his appearance into this world for the first time. My goodness has he grown into an adorable toddler!

Titus’ Mom had the idea to go with a fishing theme for his cake smash. This was a totally new theme for me as a Cincinnati Cake Smash photographer and I was excited to come up with something really awesome!

I did what any good creative does and headed out to look for some inspiration. First I hit up Pinterest and found a few cute ideas but nothing that screamed, UNIQUE. So, my next stop was to the fishing isle of my local Meijer and then to Michaels.

I am not a fisher. I haven’t fished since I was a little girl with my grandparents on our annual camping trips so it took me a minute to remember what all went into that. Once I got going, I think I came up with some really cute touches to the set.

My kids helped paint two giant fishing bobbers we made out of paper lanterns. We added a giant fishing net to the floor with some small fishing bobbers from our local hardware store. I then strung fairy lights to mimic fireflies that you might see near the docks and added a old wood fishing dock prop.

Titus’ Mom made the perfect cake to match our vision for the session. Look for yourself, below.

Upcoming Events

Did you know I go live before nearly all my cake smashes to share the behind the scenes looks of my sets? I will periodically be running contests with a chance to win to some sweet prizes during those posts. Follow me on Facebook for a chance to win something awesome!

Hint, hint. There will be a super fun contest this Saturday April 14th, around 11:30
